Mock system design interview at LinkedIn
A live 45-minute round on a question reported in LinkedIn interviews, run by an AI interviewer that asks one thing at a time, probes what you say, looks at your whiteboard, and weighs what that round is reported to weigh. It ends with a debrief: a score, what was strong, what was missing.
Design a News Feed
The home timeline of Twitter, Instagram or Facebook: posts from people you follow, ranked, fresh, and fast for hundreds of millions of users.
You will not see the requirements, the numbers or the design before you start. That is the point.
What the LinkedIn round is reported to look like
45–60 minutes, usually product-shaped around surfaces LinkedIn runs: the feed, messaging, notifications, search and typeahead, connection recommendations.
What it weighs
- Product sense: what the member sees, judged alongside the architecture
- The graph underneath: fan-out, and the skew between typical members and accounts with very large followings
- Scale numbers for a member base of around a billion
- Availability, security and how the system is run, not only how it is built
The common mistake
Making good choices silently. Interviewers are reported to score the reasoning they hear, so name the options, pick one, say why, and tie it back to what the member experiences.
From public interview guides and candidate reports, and LinkedIn’s own interview guidance where it publishes any. Not endorsed by LinkedIn. The interviewer is an AI running in that style; it is practice, not a prediction.
