Mock system design interview at Grab

A live 45-minute round on a question reported in Grab interviews, run by an AI interviewer that asks one thing at a time, probes what you say, looks at your whiteboard, and weighs what that round is reported to weigh. It ends with a debrief: a score, what was strong, what was missing.

your question

Design Uber

Match riders with nearby drivers in seconds, track trips live, and price them, for millions of concurrent users worldwide.

You will not see the requirements, the numbers or the design before you start. That is the point.

Walk through it first

What the Grab round is reported to look like

A brainstorming or whiteboarding discussion in which you justify each design decision. Grab says the round covers architecture, security and monitoring, not only the diagram.

What it weighs

  • Assumptions stated up front, and a reason for every choice
  • Follow-ups that add a new constraint, to see whether the design still holds
  • Scalability, reliability and maintainability, the principles Grab points candidates to
  • Security and monitoring designed in, not added at the end

The common mistake

Reciting a memorised design. Interviewers are reported to ask why each decision was made and then change the constraints, and Grab says it values how you solve a problem as much as the solution.

From public interview guides and candidate reports, and Grab’s own interview guidance where it publishes any. Not endorsed by Grab. The interviewer is an AI running in that style; it is practice, not a prediction.
